Sign of the Times

 Hello!

 Today was a lovely day for me personally - I went to college just to sort a few things out and I ended up helping film a project for Winstanley TV, my college's TV station.

 It was really brilliant; I love being part of Winstanley TV; filming, editing and producing programmes and films. And today's project was based in the languages department of college, and I love languages - I study French and Spanish and they are what I hope to study further in the future.

 So, today was a nice day for me ♥

 I want to talk about a song which I saw on TOTP2 a while back, and which I often find drifting into my head. It is Sign of the Times by the Belle Stars, a British female pop group from the 80s.

 It is a little bit generic 80s, but I can't help loving it - the beat is good and I love the lead singer Jennie Matthias - she gets so in to the song and you believe what she is singing because she sounds so sincere, as if she means every word. 

 The woman doing the talky bits I do find a bit scary, and she reminds me of the monologue bit in Human by the Human League. The talking is my favourite bit of Human but my least favourite bit of Sign of the Times! But I do appreciate that it adds to the song.

"Shake It Out" and the final week of college

 Hello!

 I am currently in my last week of college before study leave. It's really hard saying goodbye to this amazing place where I have spent two brilliant years, and to the wonderful people I have had the privilege of spending those two years with.

 It is also a very hectic time; there is a lot to do before I leave. But hopefully we can relax and have some fun on the last day.

 I have recently been listening a lot to "Shake It Out" by Florence and the Machine, a song I discovered via the talent show The Voice UK in which it was sung in a group performance. I was determined to find the original version of this amazing song, and after some searching on the Internet I finally succeeded.

 As far as Florence and the Machine is concerned, I like some of her songs and am not so keen on others, but Shake It Out I love. It is so powerful with a strong and important message. I can't stop listening to it.

 I may always associate this song with the last week of college and the mixed sentiments I feel about leaving. I'm sad to go but excited about the road ahead, wherever it may lead me.

 I will probably always look back on this as a very important and special time in my life, and I'm glad now that I've decided to do a blog post to remind me of this time and this song which is very special to me now as a result.

Memories ♥

 Hellooo,

 Have been listening to this...

 ...and reminiscing about good times - hearing this for the first time on the radio while eating in a supermarket café and wondering what it was; looking it up and finding out it was Gloria Estefan and being pleased because I like a lot of her music; then listening to it a great deal on YouTube in the next few weeks, maybe even the next few months.

 This was all in my early days of college, so hearing the song always brings back very strong and distinct memories; for example sitting in the language lab at lunchtimes on Fridays because I'd had a lesson there before lunch, and listening to music calmly and happily for an hour and maybe doing a bit of homework, before going to biology in the afternoon. This is how I would generally end my college week, and it was a pleasant ending, and this song brings it all back very clearly. Thank you, Gloria! ♥

 Also I can't mention those early college days without this song, which for a while I simply could not get out of my head: 

 More good memories! Particularly of bus rides home - the scenery near our college is quite nice and, much as I love college, it was always nice to be going home after a hard day's work for a well-deserved rest : ) And, as I've said, I couldn't get this song out of my head. So thank you Amy Grant too ♥ And I think it's adorable that she wrote the lyrics of this song for her baby daughter.

 That's probably enough reminiscing about college for the time being; I should probably get on with my homework; but I hope maybe you've enjoyed these songs too, and that this blog post has inspired you to consider which songs have a special significance for you.
